Teachers Can Advance Their Skills With an Online Education Certificate

Teachers Can Advance Their Skills With an Online Education Certificate
News from U.S. News University:
In order to improve the quality of education for students in kindergarten through the 12th grade, teachers are using a variety of techniques. For example, many education organizations promote the use of spatial literacy. This is defined as the ability to understand spatial relationships as well as know how geographic space is represented.

While spatial literacy has not been integrated into the K-12 curriculum in many schools, professionals believe that it can help students find success in subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering and technology.

Educators who want to integrate this concept into their teaching can now do so by completing an online education program at the University of Redlands in California, school officials announced in a press release. This four-class course of study will allow students to earn certificates in spatial literacy…………… continues on U.S. News University

Customizing E-learning Content To Meet Your Call Center’s Needs

Customizing E-learning Content To Meet Your Call Center’s Needs
News from TMC Net:

While many contact centers today benefit from using e-learning solutions to train and evaluate agents, too many of them rely on material created by other people. While you may not be in the business of – or an expert at – creating your own e-learning content, there are a number of reasons why you should consider doing so.

For starters, pre-built e-learning modules are unlikely to fit your business exactly. Only you know your workforce, your individual agents, your business, your products or services or your contact center’s goals. By understanding these things, you can design e-learning content that exactly fits you and your contact center.

Sound difficult? It shouldn’t be.

inContact’s Mary Vivit recently presented a number of simple steps for companies to follow when creating their own e-learning content (http://blog.incontact.com/blog/mary-vivit/leveraging-elearning-improve-your-roi).

Tech names new vice chancellor

Tech names new vice chancellor
News from LubbockOnline.com:

AVALANCHE-JOURNAL

Tim Hudson will serve as Texas Tech vice chancellor effective Aug. 1.

Hudson is a special assistant to the chancellor for international programs and initiatives at the University of Houston System.

In his new role, Hudson will coordinate and support distance education and online programs, areas of previous experience for the incoming vice chancellor.

From 2004 until 2010, he served as president of the University of Houston-Victoria. During his tenure, the university introduced several new degrees and double its enrollment, making the school a statewide leader in online programs.

Online education has become an increasingly popular option. Babson Survey Research Group estimated one fourth of all enrolled students took at least one online course in 2008, compared to only 12 percent in 2003. That percentage should rise in the future, and Tech is no exception.

“Distance learning is going to be more and more prevalent,” said Chan…………… continues on LubbockOnline.com

UCLA Extension partners with Encore Career Institute to form online education …
News from Daily Bruin:

A new UCLA Extension initiative is aiming to redefine the phrase “college-age” through a specific audience – baby boomers.

The extension announced Thursday its plans to help create curriculum for an online education program for boomers. The program is being implemented in partnership with Encore Career Institute, a new Web-based company that aims to provide resources to older members of the workforce who are continuing to seek or retain jobs at their age.

The organization was conceptualized by the Creative Artists Agency and the Sherry Lansing Foundation, who contacted UCLA Extension after Encore’s current director, Steve Poizner, decided to launch the company, Poizner said.

Cathy Sandeen, dean of UCLA Extension, said that the goals of Encore overlap greatly with those of UCLA Extension. The partnership will provide resources to a uniquely gifted population th…………… continues on Daily Bruin

Last Modified: Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 4:01 a.m.

In a bid to capture students who are fleeing traditional school settings, Santa Rosa City Schools is pressing forward with plans to establish an online charter high school.

The district hopes to begin offering classes by the 2012-13 school year and eventually expand the program to include kindergarten through seventh grade.

“I do not want to wait on this,” said trustee Donna Jeye. “I think this is critical to the future of our district. Otherwise people are going to cherry-pick our kids because there are businesses out there already doing it.”

The school board last week approved spending up to $ 60,000 for a part-time administrator to coordinate creation of a planning committee and to press forward with an application to the California Department of Education.

Is College a Waste of Money? ‘Short’ College Through Online Education Stocks

Is College a Waste of Money? ‘Short’ College Through Online Education Stocks
News from AdvisorOne:

PIMCO provocateur and bond fund legend Bill Gross garnered much attention in his latest missive questioning the value of a college education in today’s tough economy. Gross praised efforts to promote entrepreneurship or vocational training, while assailing the conventional liberal arts degree, which he described as “a four-year vacation interrupted by periodic bouts of cramming or Google plagiarizing.”

The PIMCO portolio manager is clearly onto something. It is clarifying for investors to know what not to invest in, and there may be ways investors might “short” a conventional college path whose value is in decline.

A website that offers college advice recently described what it called the “law school bubble,” lamenting …………… continues on AdvisorOne
