The California Department of Education is making it easier for school employees to get the training they need to protect children from abuse and neglect.

With a new law requiring California schools to report suspected cases of abuse and neglect, the state’s education officials are providing online training to help school employees protect children.

“Warning signs of abuse and neglect, what to do in response to your suspicion that a child has been abused or neglected and really what not to do,” the Education Department’s Stephanie Papas said.

Papas says the mandated Child Abuse Reporting Training lessons are self-paced and always available at no charge.

The Department of Education has also updated its Child Abuse Prevention Web page to provide schools with resources on training, reporting guidelines and procedures, and other information to create safe environments for children.

Millions more students worldwide could train as doctors and nurses using electronic learning, which is just as effective as traditional medical training, a review commissioned by the World Health Organization has found.

Researchers at Imperial College London who conducted the review said on Monday that wider use of e-learning might help make up for a global shortfall of 7.2 million health workers identified in a recent WHO report.

Josip Car, who led the study, said that the use of electronic media and devices in education – already used by many universities and workplaces to allow “distance learning” to support campus- or office-based teaching – could enable greater access to education, especially in poorer countries where the need for health professionals is greatest.

Live Training vs eLearning: A Comparison

Live Training vs eLearning: A Comparison
News from Business 2 Community:

“How much material can be covered in an eLearning module?”

We’re asked this question a lot. Many clients come to us with existing live training they’re considering converting to eLearning and need to understand how that would work.

Folks are often amazed at the time savings you get from doing a training in an on-demand format. It’s a fraction of the time it takes to do a live training, but the question is, what is that number?

We’ve found a simple formula you can use to estimate live-training-to-eLearning conversions. Here it is:

? day of live training = 20 minutes of eLearning

Wondering how that’s possible? Here’s how are we able to compress four hours down to twenty minutes:

Inspired eLearning offers online training in phishing solutions

Inspired eLearning offers online training in phishing solutions
News from Virtual College:

Inspired eLearning has launched a new security awareness and risk assessment programme to provide businesses with online training on phishing.

PhishProof offers organisations tighter control over emails and helps them to recognise potential threats through services such as data import, comprehensive support, graphic design for educational packages and a pre-built selection of phishing emails.

It also provides information on management of phishing assessments, report generation and tailored recommendations from implementation experts.

Martin Rico, chief executive officer of Inspired eLearning, said the course addresses the problem of hackers who know the best way to get around even the most efficient of technical defences.

“When it comes to protecting an organisation from phishing attacks, you have to rely on your end users and so you have to train them. In general, we think the best kind of training in this case is simulation,” he added.

Consequently, the company has created a simulation-focused online training programme with assessments based around ready-made phishing emails.

The PhishProof course uses a video-based training component that introduces workers to common phishing techniques and the best practices to safeguard against risks. continues on Virtual College

Morris Catholic High School launches e-learning technology
News from Virtual College:

Morris Catholic High School in New Jersey has joined forces with Optimum Lightpath to roll out online learning to its students.

The institution – which serves 40 towns and communities in Morris County – has taken teaching to another level since deploying a 100 per cent fibre network.

Before striking a partnership with the market leader, the school suffered regular internet outages and had limited bandwidth, preventing it from delivering the latest learning technologies.

President of Morris Catholic High School Michael St Pierre said: “We knew that we had to make a big change to our network infrastructure in order to introduce new technology-based learning initiatives for our students.”

Optimum Lightpath’s Internet Voice Bundle has allowed the institution to incorporate digital teaching into its curriculum, with the help of a school podcast, new mobile applications for iPhones and Android devices and the installation of interactive whiteboards.

Teachers who were previously frustrated with the difficulties of connecting to the internet for research and using online training are now experiencing greater flexibility in the classroom and have seen significant boosts in bandwidth.
